About the author:

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela. After studying psychology at Venezuelan Central University, curiosity and the thirst for adventures put me early on the road, mostly all over Europe, meandering for years through many streets until photography took me back to formal education in Barcelona - Catalonia.

My professional work as a photographer has been geared towards social subjects that promote ideas of solidarity, tolerance, and respect at the time that question both, the structures of economic and political powers, and myself as a photographer and as part of this industry and society, and the role I can play in a deeper and more effective debate.

I have followed and developed personal projects and assignments in Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Guyane, Greece, France, Spain among other different countries, and being exhibited widely in places including France, Italy, Austria, Cambodia, Bosnia, Colombia, Ecuador to mention some. My work has been published by Le Monde, New York Times, L.A Times, The Wall Street Journal, Days Japan, Der Spiegel, NZZ, Time Magazine and has been recognized by Magnum Foundation (I'm currently on a fellowship with MF to work on youth, incarceration, and reinsertion in Venezuela), Eugene Smith Award, Tim Hetherington Foundation, Picture of the Year LatAm, 6x6 Global Talent Program by WPP between other prizes and recognitions.

Parallel to my photographic work I've developed a passion for teaching, being photography as well an important tool for education, inclusion, and social improvement. As instructor and teacher, I have taken part in participatory photographic workshops with kids from excluded communities in Mexico, youngsters in IDPs camps in post-earthquake Haiti, or inmates inside Venezuelan prisons. And taught as well formal educational programs in Colombia, Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, and Venezuela amongst many other places.

Nací en Caracas, Venezuela. Luego de mis estudios de psicología en la Universidad Central de Venezuela, la curiosidad y mi sed de aventuras me puso temprano en la carretera, sobre todo en Europa, vagando y viajando durante años por entre pequeños pueblos y grandes ciudades hasta que la fotografía me llevó de vuelta a la educación formal en Barcelona - Catalunya.

Mi trabajo profesional como fotógrafo ha estado orientado hacia temáticas sociales que promueven ideas de solidaridad, tolerancia y respeto al tiempo que cuestionan las estructuras de poder económico y político, mi propia persona como fotógrafo parte de esta industria y esta sociedad, y el rol que puedo desempeñar en un debate más profundo y efectivo.

He desarrollado proyectos en Venezuela, Colombia, México, Cuba, Guyana, Grecia, Francia, España y otros diferentes países y he sido expuesto ampliamente en lugares que incluyen Francia, Austria, Cambodia,Bosnia, Colombia, Ecuador, por mencionar algunos. My trabajo se ha publicado en Le Monde, New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Days Japan, NZZ, Time Magazine y ha sido reconocido por Magnum Foundation, con quienes estoy becado actualmente para trabajar sobre encarcelamiento y reinserción en Venezuela, Eugene Smith Fellowship, Tim Hetherington Foundation, 6x6 Global Talent Program del World Press Photo entre otros reconocimientos.

Paralelo a mi trabajo fotográfico he desarrollado una gran pasión por la enseñanza siendo la fotografía una importante herramienta de educación, inclusión y crecimiento social. Como instructor y maestro he participado en talleres de fotografía comunitaria en comunidades excluidas de México, jóvenes de campos de desplazados en el Haiti post-terremoto y reclusos en cárceles Venezolanas. Enseñando también en programas de educación formal en Argentina, Guatemala, Colombia, México, Venezuela, Francia y otros lugares.
